Hiring guide
Animators bring products, brands, and stories to life, but the range of skills under the 'animator' title is enormous. A 2D motion designer, a 3D character animator, and a stop-motion artist are completely different hires. Before you start, nail down exactly what you need: medium, style, output format, and the tools your pipeline runs on.
Ask to see three to five projects that represent the kind of work you need, not their most impressive piece. Animators who excel at one style often produce mediocre work in others. Confirm their depth in the specific style before committing.
After Effects, Spine, Lottie, Maya, Blender, Toon Boom, your delivery format determines the tool. Ask what formats they export to and how they've delivered animation assets for web, mobile, or broadcast previously.
Animation is revision-intensive. Ask how they manage client feedback cycles, how many revision rounds are standard in their workflow, and how they handle scope creep on longer projects.
Give them a brief during the interview and ask them to describe how they'd approach it, what reference they'd gather, what questions they'd ask before starting. This reveals creative process and communication skills.
Portfolio shows one style only with no range
Cannot explain timing or easing decisions in their own work
No awareness of file size or format requirements for delivery channels
Has never worked within a defined revision limit
Unclear on how they'd handle a brief, jumps straight to execution
Defensive when asked about pieces in their portfolio they didn't enjoy making
At Teamified, many of our offshore animators have worked on agency-produced content for global brands, they understand client brief culture, revision cycles, and production deadlines. At 40–60% of local salary costs, you're often getting more senior experience than an equivalent local junior hire, particularly for motion graphics and 2D animation.
"Walk me through your process from receiving a brief to delivering final assets, every step."
Reveals process discipline, how they handle ambiguity, and whether they ask the right questions before starting.
"Show me a piece you're least proud of and explain what you'd do differently today."
Self-awareness and growth orientation matter as much as raw talent.
"How do you handle a client who keeps changing direction after animation has started?"
Scope management is critical, animation rework is expensive and time-consuming.
"What's the most technically constrained project you've worked on, tight file size, specific format, unusual delivery requirement?"
Production realities require technical adaptability, not just creative skill.
Hiring models
Every model has trade-offs. Here's how they compare so you can choose the right fit for your team.
General options
Hire directly in your city. Full cultural alignment and in-office presence, but the talent pool is limited and salaries are high.
Engage on a task or sprint basis. Fast to start, but loyalty is low and availability is never guaranteed long-term.
Hand off a scoped project to an agency. Good for defined deliverables, but you pay a premium and own very little of the relationship.
Via Teamified
Get a dedicated, full-time animators: vetted, onboarded, and HR-managed by Teamified. Same output as a local hire, at a fraction of the cost.
On salary costs vs. hiring locally
We headhunt the talent that isn't actively looking. Deep network access, thorough vetting, and a curated shortlist, and you make the final call.
Industry average is 15%, so you keep the difference
Hand us the brief and we run the whole process: sourcing, screening, interviews, and offer management. Your team stays focused on the business.

The flexibility and cultural fit made a huge difference. It wasn't just about filling seats - it was about finding the right people.

Have a chat with Teamified. You will get a sense that it's much more of a relationship situation where they're really wanting to understand your business, as opposed to a more transactional experience, which is what we found talking with some other providers. The good thing is, there's a team behind you if you pick the right partner to help.
